We are slowly making progress back to normality and the Welsh Government has now given us the go-ahead to re-open our race day restaurant and hospitality suites. This is in addition to the return of spectators who were back on course for our meeting at Chepstow on Friday 11th June.
For our Ladies Evening fixture on Friday 9th July, The View Restaurant will be open for dinner. Details of the package on offer is available on our website. There are seven races from 6.15pm. General admission tickets are £25 and must be booked in advance for track and trace purposes. There is also a cash prize of £500 for the Best Dressed Lady.
After much consideration, we have decided to move the Kaiser Chiefs race day concert at Ffos Las on Friday 27th August to Thursday 2nd June 2022.
The current Covid restrictions governing attendances at race meetings means we are only allowed to have up to 4000 spectators. Clearly, the Kaisers Chiefs event is going to sell far more tickets than this figure so we have made the decision to hold the show next year.
Friday 27th August will now revert to Ladies Day, which is always a popular race meeting. For all customers who have purchased tickets for the Kaiser Chiefs, there are a range of options available and these are being communicated by e-mail this week.
The new Kaiser Chiefs date of Thursday 2nd June 2022 is the first day of the four day Whitsun Bank Holiday to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee which runs from Thursday to Sunday.
Pembrokeshire trainer Dai Rees’s Kingston King was odds on when trotting up under Sean Bowen at Newton Abbot last Tuesday. Connections are keen to strike while the iron is hot, so he’s entered in two races at Worcester on Wednesday and another at Newton Abbot on Friday.
Peter Bowen has never been afraid to travel long distances – almost everywhere is a long way from his Haverfordwest base – and his More Buck’s and Staple Head are doubly entered at Perth on Thursday. Peter was out of luck with his runners in the big races at Uttoxeter and Cartmel at the weekend but overall – as mentioned in last week’s column – he’s having a great 2021/22 season so far.
David Probert notched a quick-fire double at Newcastle’s Pitmens’ Derby meeting on Saturday. He got Oo De Lally home by a short head for his guvnor Andrew Balding half an hour after an easy win on Second Slip for James Fanshawe, a late-developing horse that looks certain to follow up.
With nine winners in the last fortnight bringing his score for the year up to 70, he has every chance of topping his best-ever annual total of 112.
