One of the highlights of the National Hunt Season at Chepstow is the Unibet Jump Season Opener Meeting, which falls across two days in October and traditionally launches the winter National Hunt season in the UK.
With fantastic prize money available across the two days, which totals up to £400,000, the meeting attracts all the big names in racing, making for an exciting event.
Our fixtures make up the first two days of the The Big Welsh Racing Weekend, three days of dramatic racing shared with our sister track at Ffos Las Racecourse. Three days, two tracks and high intensity racing, making it one of the highlights of Welsh Racing.
The Friday fixture marks the start of the winter Jumps Racing Season in the UK.
This hugely popular horse racing fixture is always a special moment as Chepstow Racecourse welcomes the return of National Hunt Racing after a summer of Flat racing.
The Grade 2 Unibet Persian War Novices’ Hurdle was won last year by Captain Teague, trained by Paul Nicholls and ridden by Champion Jockey, Harry Cobden. This horse went on to win the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle at Newbury.
In previous years the race has also been won by Silviniaco Conti, Secret Investor, Blaklion and McFabulous and will be worth £50,000.
Day two of the Jumps Season Opener features another high-prize money card with the feature race of the afternoon, the Wasdell Group Grade Two Silver Trophy Handicap Hurdle.
Don’t Push It and Ballyoptic are two high profile previous winners of the Wasdell Group Silver Trophy, the feature on the Saturday, which will be run for £75,000.
Expect to see some of the season's future champions take part.
