It will be a case of third time lucky when the Kaiser Chiefs finally come to Wales and perform at Chepstow’s sister course Ffos Las near Llanelli next month. The band – whose string of UK hits include their signature anthem, “I Predict a Riot” – had to twice postpone their show because of lockdowns during the pandemic.
Now, though, the multi-award-winning band are due to finally get on stage on Thursday 2nd June, following an evening’s racing to mark the Jubilee Bank Holiday celebrations.
The Kaiser Chiefs and their lead singer, Ricky Wilson (photographed), have got used to having to show patience, though. The former star of TV show, The Voice, had to postpone his own wedding four times last year before he finally got to tie the knot.
Now, the band are back performing to live audiences again with a set that includes hit singles such as, “Ruby”, “Everyday I Love You Less And Less”, “Oh, My God” and “Everything Is Average Nowadays”.
The Chiefs are due to take to the stage at Ffos Las at around 8.45pm. Tickets are available at ffoslas-racecourse.co.uk – you’ll also be able to pay on the night. At Chepstow, Paloma Faith will be playing live after racing on Friday 8th July.
Sean Bowen’s fine start to the new jump season continues. He rode two winners at Uttoxeter on Saturday night for Gloucestershire trainer Martin Keighley. Mozzaro was completing a hat-trick of steeplechase wins and is unbeaten over the larger obstacles. An hour later Found On won a four-runner mares chase, and for her too it was a third consecutive victory.
Keighley used to ride for Nigel Twiston-Davies and David Nicholson, for whom he schooled the likes of Barton Bank and Viking Flagship. He’s been training for 20 years and had much his best season in 2021/22, with 43 winners – 16 partnered by Bowen.
Sean then rode a double at Ffos Las on Monday with Lord Bryan and Pilgrims King both trained by his father Peter. Jack Tudor was also on the scoresheet aboard Motown Lake for trainer Christian Williams. There was more success for the Bowen family when Downtown Getaway, trained by Mickey, won at Huntingdon on Tuesday evening ridden by Derek O’Connor.
Trainer Sam Thomas was in the Aintree Winners’ Enclosure on Friday night with the Dai Walters owned Paddy’s Motorbike. He first ran as a two-year-old in June 2014, finishing second at Chepstow over a mile. Since then, he’s won eight races, finished second six times and third six times. He’s now ten, still running well, and has very rarely run a bad race in 39 starts.
Walters had a second winner at Aintree when Exelerator Express scored in the 3m handicap chase for trained Neil Mulholland and jockey Sam Twiston-Davies. Walters owns the gelding with the Potter Group.
