Thistlecrack To Make His Chasing Debut at Chepstow

Mon, Oct 24, 2016

Leading hurdler Thistlecrack will make his much awaited chasing debut at Chepstow tomorrow (Tuesday 25th October).

The eight year old, trained by Colin Tizzard, has been declared in a field of five for the £12,000 Aspen Waite Complete Business Growth Service Novices’ Chase over three miles. The race is off at 3.35pm.

Thistlecrack has won £460,000 in prize money from his hurdling and bumper career. He won all five of his hurdle races last season including the Ryanair World Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

The gelding, owned by John and Heather Snook, is already amongst the favourites for the 2017 Cheltenham Gold Cup despite having never jumped a fence in public.

His rivals tomorrow are Coole Charmer, Shaky Gift, Aqalim and Saddlers Encore.

Phil Bell, Executive Director at Chepstow Racecourse, said:” We are absolutely delighted that Thistlecrack will be making his chasing debut with us.

“Plenty of top class horses, including Thistlecrack’s stable mate Cue Card, have jumped Chepstow’s fences over the years and he is clearly another exciting prospect for all the top honours in our sport”.

There are now eight races tomorrow. The gates open at 11.30am and the first race is off at 1.30pm. Admission is £18.
